Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a challenging period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
