Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
